At the May 20 Louisa County Board of Supervisors meeting the Foundation for Lake Anna Emergency Services presented a check of $108,000 to the Board.

“Because of the generosity of the residents and businesses around Lake Anna, we’re excited to be able to present a $108,000 check towards the purchase of a new fire and rescue boat,” Patrick Gallagher, one of the Directors of Foundation for Lake Anna Emergency Services (LAFES), said.

At the meeting Gallagher told the Supervisors that  the funds were a result of over 300 businesses contributing, as well as brick purchases, bench sponsors for a Memorial Patio, grants, sponsors of the station’s flag poles, many fundraising events at Lake Anna Taphouse, Cooling Pond Brewery, Callie Opies Orchard Restaurant, and also 80 golfers and 37 businesses that sponsored a golf tournament at Cutalong Golf Course.

“I just want to say thank you,” Jackson District Supervisor R.T. “Toni” Williams, Jr. said. “I remember when y’all first showed up and you talked about wanting a firehouse and rescue station at the lake…y’all have far exceeded my expectations with what you’ve done and I just want to thank you and commend you for your continued efforts.”

Cuckoo District Supervisor, Christopher C. McCotter thanked the group presenting the check for not only the fundraising but for the inspiration to others in the community.

“Your legacy will not only be the fire house but also the satisfaction you have inspired many others in our community to advocate and act collaboratively when passionate about a good cause.”

The latest donation will help the county replace its lone fire and rescue boat, a 2008 Kenner fishing boat. According to information about the watercraft shared at a previous board meeting, the boat was purchased used and lacks basic emergency service equipment.

After presentation of the check the supervisors passed a resolution  to accept the donation unanimously.

The group continues to fundraise for Station 8.

Aside from the fire house construction donation, the group has chipped in $150,000 for a new ambulance, $76,235 for a Physio Control LifePack and extrication equipment and $17,642 for a Lucas Compression Device, according to its website.

“On June 18, Cutalong is hosting teh 2nd annual golf tournament and fundraiser for New Bridge Fire & Rescue. We’re looking forward to another robust event,” noted Jane Gallagher, another Director of LAFES.
