Louisa Clean Founders and Lake Anna residents Jody Korman and Carol Dezorzi along with their fellow Louisa Clean volunteers have collaborated with Louisa County Schools (LCPS) to design and create a coloring book with the goal of teaching children not to litter.
Student Phoebe Fickes created the logo and mascot for the movement: “Raccoon Randy says litter pick up is dandy”. LCPS Communications Director Andrew Woolfolk designed the cover page for the coloring book “Raccoon Randy Saves The Day”. Sixteen LCPS Art Students designed the pages for the book. Heather Spaid and Lee Downey were the LCPS leaders who helped to coordinate with the art department encouraging art students to design the pages.
REC provided the funding to print the books through a Power of Change Grant. MidTown Printing and Ronda Guill printed the books.
“Our goal is to provide the books to all second and fifth graders,” said Korman.
Louisa Clean was created in 2022 by Korman and several other pioneering neighbors. The adventure began in 2022 working with the Louisa County Board of Supervisors, the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, the VDOT Adopt A Highway program and Elk Creek Baptist Church to clean up area roads and stop the culture of littering in parts of the community.
“We started with three to four volunteers and have grown to over 300 volunteers who have expressed interest in either working with us to pick up trash, advocating for our mission, and providing funding,” Korman told Life & Times.
