Dominion Energy has approved the installation of No Wake buoys at the Millpond and Elk Creek bridges on the Waste Heat Treatment Facility or “hotside” of Lake Anna.

At its July 25 meeting the Lake Anna Advisory voted to recommend the installation of the buoys due to concerns over increased boat traffic and public safety pending Dominion Energy’s approval.

LAAC Navigation & Safety Subccommittee Chair Barbara Aikens told Life & Times she supported the recommendation based on the No Wake buoys at other lake bridges as well as the marked increase in boats on the WHTF.

“We’ve had a number of new subdivisions created over there that have combined to add many boats and the potential for damaging collisions will be reduced by slowing down traffic at these pinch points.”

Gary Jacobs of Tow Boat US Lake Anna will install two bouys per bridge, one on each side. Jacobs and Aikens, along with other volunteers have managed the lake’s buoy system this season.

“As the lake develops and more more folks want to enjoy boating here, we have to understand there will be more regulation to try and address obvious public safety concerns. I applaud Dominion Energy for approving these No Wake buoys that will join the buoys that have already been in place at Coleman’s Bridge for years. If you’ve ever been fishing at one of these bridges you know not everyone uses common sense or knows the 50’ law and slows down,”
said LAAC chairman Christopher C. McCotter.

LAAC is a three-county advisory group that meets every other month on the fourth Thursday in the Louisa County Administrative Building at 6:30 pm.
