Lake Anna Restaurants And Businesses Raise $7,500 For Scholarships

The Lake Anna Business Partnership’s annual Lake Anna Restaurant Week was held February 5-12 and included the following participating establishments: Callie Opie’s Orchard, Coyote Hole Ciderworks, El Gran Patron, Lake Anna Taphouse, Mad Batter Bakery, Tavern on the Rail, Tasty Crab, Tim’s at Lake Anna and Vito’s On The Lake.

The goal of the week was to encourage locals and visitors to patronize area restaurants during a typically slow time of the year and generate funds for the new LABP Scholarship.

“We want to help our member restaurants get through the winter and I thank each of them for participating this year. We had the largest, most diverse field of restaurants in the history of the promotion and that was good for our scholarship find,” LABP president Jody Korman told Life & Times.

Each year LABP organizes and promotes the Lake Anna Restaurant Week to raise money for charity. This year’s event will focus donations on the LABP Scholarship Fund – a $2,500 scholarship that will go to a worthy high school student attending Louisa, Spotsylvania and Orange County high schools planning on attending college or a technical training school.

Participating restaurants declared certain menu items part of the Lake Anna Restaurant Week menu and donated $1 from the sale of each of these meals to the LABP Scholarship Fund. LABP, in turn will match up to $500 of the donations.

One LABP Scholarship Fund was fully funded by Rappahannock Electric Cooperative. A second $2,500 was the focus of Restaurant Week. The following businesses pledged $1,000: Steve Harler of Mid Atlantic Watersports and Dock Builders, Lionel Carter/Lake Dream Realty and Dr. Dan Slovis of Lake Anna Veterinary Hospital. Mike Kavros of Callie Opie’s Orchard donated $400. Lake Anna Life Media Group, realtor Libby Sandbridge, Jody Korman of Commonwealth Referrals, Lake Dream Realty and Ethan Seltzer of Ground Force pledged $250. Bob Kulakowski of Pro Radon Testing pledged $100.

Three, separate scholarships were generously funded and will be awarded this spring.  To make a donation or for an application for the scholarship, contact LABP at info@visitlakeanna.org. Applications are due back by April 15.
