The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has two active projects currently in the Lake Anna area – the 522/208 roundabout and maintenance work on Kentucky Springs Road to include repaving.
Roundabout
If you’ve traveled around this spring you know the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is constructing a roundabout at the intersection of U.S. 522 and Route 208 to improve safety and traffic flow. After Monday, May 20, the new roundabout configuration was in place, and drivers should be prepared to yield to traffic inside the roundabout. Work will continue through the upcoming winter as crews install the inner circle, concrete median islands, and outside shoulder. The expected full completion date is Jan. 31, 2025.
Rt. 652/Kentucky Springs Road
Residents and travelers are also aware of ongoing VDOT road maintenance on Route 652 (Kentucky Springs Road). Recently VDOT crews have been performing drainage pipe repairs and installations while fiber optic crews work on the shoulders, creating some challenging driving conditions and extra wait times. Residents and visitors can continue to expect flagging operations between Route 700 (Johnson Road) and Route 208 (New Bridge Road), daily, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Additionally, VDOT has recently announced that repaving of Kentucky Springs will commence on May 28. Residents of Kentucky Springs have advocated for improvements for some time. This work will increase safety and these updates are expected to last many years into the future.
Resurfacing on Rt 652 is scheduled to start on May 28 and run approximately three weeks. Paving operations will run from 7a-5:30p M-F (weather not withstanding). This work will be performed under a flagging operation with a pilot vehicle. The paving crews are planning to start at the intersection of Rt 208/652 and work toward Rt 614.
Temporary striping/plastic markers will be installed and permanent striping is scheduled to come in about two weeks after paving operations are completed on Rt 652.
