The Lake Anna Business Partnership (LABP) has awarded $7,500 in scholarships to three students in Louisa, Orange and Spotsylvania Counties. The awards are part of their annual
Young Leaders Scholarship Program intended to assist area students with college tuition.
The group’s Scholarship Committee consisting of Chair Matthew Custer, Jodie Korman, Jacob Conley and Christopher McCotter reviewed 38 applications from college bound seniors attending school in all three counties. They graded each at the Lake Anna Life Publishing office at Anna Point Marina and ranked them according to a total score. Top scores received the ultimate consideration for the scholarships.
Abigail Bryant was the Louisa County recipient of the LABP scholarship. The Governor’s School attendee and member of the Holly Grove Rescue Squad since age 14 wrote in her application that she plans to pursue a career in agriculture. Bryant is a member of the National Honor Society and FFA.
Spotsylvania County recipient Claire Bowling wrote she wanted to a pursue a career as a business analyst. She is a two-year member of the National Honor Society, the Math Honor Society, creator/founder of the @spotsyspectator Instagram page, was Student Council president and vice president and an accomplished pianist.
Kathryn Trocchio was awarded the LABP scholarship for Orange County. As a member of the OCHS Marching Band, Jazz Band, Pit OCHS Pit Orchestra, Indoor Percussion Ensemble and the National Honor Society, Trocchio said in her application she was inspired the caregivers her family encountered during relatives’ illnesses and would pursue a career as a nurse.
Members of LABP attended each school’s awards events and personally congratulated the Young Leaders Scholarship recipients. The funds raised for the scholarships came from the sales of the Lake Anna Card, a discount card participating area businesses sold for $20 that entitle card holders to discounts and special offers.
LABP is a 150+ member strong group of business owners and social members that meet each month at a different Lake Anna venue for a meal, sponsor presentations and networking. The group was founded in 2002 by five business owners wanting to increase tourism and business at the lake. LABP will be holding the Lake Anna Car Show & Festival at Pleasants Landing June 14. A portion of that event’s proceeds will help fund the scholarship fund. For more information go to www.visitlakeanna.org.
