“At Elk Creek Country Store we don’t focus as much on profit as we do on serving the community and providing them with the meals they like and excellent customer service. One example is our home-cooked specials, which are very popular and sell out every time our chefs offer them,” noted Elk Creek Country Store owner Mike Rassiwalla.
After over 50 years in business as a community country store, Elk Creek has officially been recognized as offering the best fried chicken at the lake as well as the best gas station and the best convenience store food in a recent Best Of vote.
The store, located on Kentucky Springs Road just a long cast from the lake is where much of the Louisa, down lake Lake Anna community fuels vehicles (Exxon), grabs coffee and breakfast in the morning and lunches mid-day. There’s a hot food bar with Perfectly Southern Fried Chicken with sides like mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw and biscuits, plus bar-b-que, deli sandwiches, Hunt Brothers pizza, hamburgers and a grab-and-go section featuring freshly made salads and the famous Elk Creek club sandwich.
Visitors can take their food to go or sit on the store’s porch or gazebo.
Recently, Rassiwalla and his manager, Terry Snyder worked to expand their selection of wine and beer. The soft drink and energy drink selection is impressive. A coffee bar provides plenty of brew choices. Slushy machines keep everyone happy on hot days, too!
Also, inside Elk Creek Country Store you’ll find Uncle Mike’s Bait & Tackle. The selection is geared toward bass fishing on the Cooling Ponds with great brands like Yamamoto, ZOOM, YUM, Strike King, Bobby Garland and more. The shop also offers nightcrawlers and live minnows, rod and reel combos, boating items and PFDs.
A room full of LKA® and Bumpass Wear apparel awaits those looking for a cap, tee or hoodie to show community pride or commemorate a visit.
Country stores like Elk Creek are an important part of the rural and seasonal resort community that cycles each year at the lake.
