The Cutalong at Lake Anna community has reached another milestone; receiving final site plan approval from Louisa County for the project’s golf clubhouse overlooking the back of Contrary Creek.

Cutalong’s Director of Sales & Marketing, Chris Baird told Life & Times crews will break ground on the clubhouse in August. When complete this private clubhouse will cater to members, golf and resort guests before and after their rounds with a full-service restaurant and bar. The facility will also accommodate resort guests checking into their stay & play residences and house a golf pro shop. The patio space, located off the first tee box and 18th green, will offer panoramic views of the golf course and provide a world class gathering place for events and socializing.

Phase 1 amenities include the golf clubhouse and pavilion, a lakeside marina (first stage), boat rentals, the Blackwater Creek trailhead with comfort stations, four pickleball courts and a fishing pond.

The stay & play villas and cottages will be launched for presales in 2025. The villas feature four bedrooms and four baths, while the cottages offer two bedrooms and two baths. These units will be well-suited for weekend getaways at the lake and include the option to book golf packages with a stay.

At full build out Cutalong is designed to encompass 891 residences, including single family executive and estate homesites, stay & play golf villas and cottages, condominiums and townhomes.

Baird told Life & Times Cutalong is committed to becoming one of the premier golf courses in Virginia and aiming for national recognition.

“In response to player feedback over the past three years, significant improvements were made in the fall of 2023 to enhance playability and enjoyment while maintaining a challenging experience.”

As part of these improvements hole 4 and 13 greens were expanded to allow for more pin placements.

“The hole 8 green was also enlarged while decreasing the severity of the undulation, offering generous landing surfaces across its various tiers.”

Baird also noted hole 1 underwent a redesign.

“The fairway was lowered to provide a clear view of the green from the tee and future clubhouse. New fairway bunkers were added on the right side to protect the new combined fairway shared by number 1 and 18. The green is a completely different shape and we’re thrilled with how it turned out. Surrounding greenside bunkers were reshaped and relocated to frame the green beautifully.”

Cutalong Director of Golf Course and Grounds, Jimmy Pierson, has also enhanced the course’s attention to detail.

“The fescue rough around each hole elegantly defines the Bermuda grass fairways. Clearing undergrowth in wooded areas has made it easier to find and play balls. Our greens are praised by members and guests as some of the best in the state. Despite ongoing grounds and road construction, players still feel a sense of exclusivity on this pristine course.”

Cutalong has been the site of a number of notable community events including a fundraiser tournament that raised over $28k for New Bridge Fire & EMS/Station 8 that drew 94 golfers, the two-day annual Member/Member Tournament (won by David Morgan and Bruce Klein), the 4Ward Charity Golf Tournament with 140 participants and over $20k raised for mental health awareness and the Miner’s Cup; a scramble tournament held Fourth of July weekend won by Aaron Guill, Josh and Jack Holley and Nick Morris.
