What a summer we’ve had at Lake Anna.

  E. Coli issues (see page 12), the return of Harmful Algae Blooms Advisories (HABS), drownings, missing persons, boat fires, seemingly never-ending road construction projects… need I go on?

Just when you thought the lake couldn’t catch a break, things started to turn around.

I was present July 10 when Gov. Glenn Youngkin ceremonially signed a bill beginning the process to bring small modular reactors to the North Anna Power Station – a major sign of huge investment in the future of Lake Anna. This was the start of good news. Read about that on page 7.

On July 30 I will speak at a milestone event for Lake Anna. The ceremonial groundbreaking for the Cutalong Golf Community clubhouse with over 200 attending including Suzanne Youngkin, the First Lady of Virginia.

This should be an amazing day at an amazing venue to welcome many to the lake and celebrate a major investment in the future. I am grateful to the investors at Reef Management and for Cutalong staff that have taken a property that was a liability to the lake when they first bought it and transformed it into an outstanding venue that will draw folks to the community.

Now as far as the impact Cutalong will have on the economic side of Lake Anna, I am preparing to be extremely grateful as a resort and 800+ homes will help us build and benefit from an even more powerful economic engine here.

Sandwiched in between these events and my day-to-day business, I took a tour of the machine designed to reduce inflowing phosphorus into one of the headwaters of the lake as part of a nearly $1 million investment to remediate harmful algae blooms. This will hopefully bring good news in the near future, but just the start of the effort is a positive. You’ll find that story on page 10.

I am truly grateful for people like Harry Looney of the Lake Anna Advisory Committee and Lake Anna Civic Association who is doing yeoman’s duty getting this HAB Remediation Project underway.

Other good news worth noting are the continuing efforts of Jody Korman and her Louisa Clean volunteers that just were awarded a $10K from AWS. There’s that plus the Lake Anna Business Partnership Fashion Show with Lake Anna Outfitters that raised nearly $2K for a new rescue boat for Lake Anna Rescue, Inc. and the $28K raised for New Bridge Fire & Rescue by the recent Cutalong golf tournament.

My friend and long-time Lake Anna realtor, Libby Sandridge writes a great piece we call Lakehouse&Land. In it she details real estate trends around the lake. I am happy to report she notes in her article in our summer edition that Lake Anna real estate is up over the same period as last year and that is great news.

There’s a lot of good things going on around this lake and the communities that surround it, and I wanted to point out how grateful we are to be able to cover them all and bring you such news with Lake Anna Life & Times. It’s a good time to be Lake Anna’s top news source and we appreciate you reading.
