The weather gets warmer, the daffodils blossom, dog woods bloom, then comes the mountain laurel, next is Memorial Day and the lake comes alive with recreational boaters. As summer begins, the anticipation for another annual event continues to grow, the Lake Anna Civic Association’s 4th of July Firework display, made even more special this 250th anniversary year of America’s independence.

The fireworks show is set up along Dike 2, and viewers can see the fireworks regardless if they are on the main lake or in the cooling ponds. There is a 1,000 foot No Boats safety zone on either side of the Dike.

This is the 29th annual firework show, and it is completely funded by donations, with the 2026 goal set at $45,000.

The event will occur on Saturday, July 4, at approximately 9:15 pm and will last about 30 minutes and include a grand finale. After the show, technicians will examine each launch tube to make sure it has fired. If any shells are found not to have fired, they will be fired at that time.

In the case that it rains, the fireworks may start after the rain stops and could take up to an hour to begin. If it is still raining at 11 pm, the show will go on in the rain. The morning of, organizers will check the weather and decide if the display should be moved to July 5, and if so information will be posted at www.lakeannavirginia.org. If the show is cancelled a second time there will not be a third try.

For the safety of yourself and others, use your bow and stern lights when moving and the stern light ONLY if anchored. Do not use docking lights as they can disrupt the night vision of other boaters. Practice boating safety and courtesy if outside the NO WAKE viewing zone and understand the worst wake is produced at speeds of 2-15 mph.

Remember use of personal watercraft are NOT PERMITTED after dark. Do not play offensive or highly amplified music as this is a family friendly event. State and local law enforcement will be present to maintain a safe and pleasant evening.
